I used to help cats and kittens looking for home. I can’t guarantee every kitty will land on good home with good owners. I tried my best to do so. But I always reject adopter that want to adopt for sake to surprise their kids, girlfriend or as a gift. After watching this video, I will change my mind and look at things differently. Cats are known to be territorial, be they house cats or feral. As a mediator in a cat welfare volunteer group, I need to find the balance between residents who dislike cats and those who love them, handling complaints from upset residents as well as finding ways to do it without hurting the cats. The resident officer usually gives me the option of relocating the cats. Continue reading
Who is the best cat and dog trainers? There are only 2 men who are certainly well known by cat and dog lovers alike. Jackson Galaxy and Cesar Millan.
On my previous blog post (How To Find A Missing Cat), I have suggested various ways of looking for a missing cat and how to prevent that from happening. Micro-chipping your pet is one of the best preventive measures you can take. But what happens if your cat is so timid that it hides in one corner and refuses to seek help on its own?
I came across a Youtube video lately. A dog named Crosby was stuck in the middle of an icy River. Crosby is at the heart of a miraculous story of survival that touched many animal lovers around the world. We can’t give enough thanks to the brave men – Wellesley Fire-fighter, Dave Papazian and Paul Delaney for saving Crosby’s life.
What made Crosby so special that he could be located in the middle of an icy river? His owner, Bella has put a tracking collar on him. This collar allowed them to pinpoint the exact location of Crosby by using a cell phone GPS tracker.
Have you ever rushed of to work in the morning and realize you forgot a very important thing you have to do? Your cat breakfast, you and I for sure will not skip a nice breakfast to start of the day. If really you forgotten so your cat has to wait till you back for dinner or worse supper? Unless your job is a 9 to 5 on the dot you can knock off. Some urgent project or last minute client need your service which “No” is not an answer.
Yes, cats are independent animal that can take care themselves and sleep many hours during the day. But they can’t cook their meal or go supermarket and order a pack of cat nip on their own. A proper feeding time for cat is twice a day, having a buffet style for cat is not a good idea. Which I mean your cat bowl is always fill with food. Your cat will tend to expect food is always there and likely to be an overweight cat with such habit.
If you know you have irregular working hour, I suggest to you to get a Cat Auto feeder. There are several of choices to suit your need. Continue reading
There have been cases of complaints I’ve received from the resident officer about cats. I have attended to complaints from residents who don’t like or are scared of cats on several occasions. Once in a while, I have met friendly residents with nothing but positive feedback about our feline neighbors.
Some complaints are reasonable. Such as cat faeces on their doorsteps. Even a normal person, regardless of whether he likes or dislikes cats in general, wouldn’t want this to be happening on their own doorsteps and would make an obvious stink about the obvious stink.
Most of the time, the culprits are roaming house cats. Owners who allow their cats to roam around are the root causes of the problem. In my country Singapore, most people live in housing estates. We don’t have the luxury of outdoor areas for our cats to play. When the cat is used to being outdoors, it tends to sneak out whenever it can. If the cat starts to defecate outside, they will return to the same area again.
I have been trapping cats and sending them for spaying/neutering for at least 7 years. This process is commonly known as TRN (Trap Neuter Return), the most humane way of controlling the population of stray/feral cats. Up till today, I do not consider myself an expert in any way.
I use a normal trap with 2 doors. The front door is for the cat to enter the trap and the back door is for transferring the cat to the carrier. When I started 7 years ago, I trapped cats 1 at a time and sent them to the vet one by one. I was initially worried about the transferring of the cat from trap to carrier as it might escape during the process. But I soon learned from other trappers about how they usually transferred the cat to the carrier. Continue reading
Cats are instinctively drawn to plants like catnip and matatabi. This predilection for cat drugs, coupled with their natural-born leaping ability, leaves them a bound or two away from your potted plants and this is no laughing “mata”. Continue reading
Being a hunk is almost every man’s dream. So if you have a great body, it is most likely that you will end up modeling full or part-time. But here is a group of hunky men who have done a great deed by using their time to pose with furry kittens, thereby helping their shelter raise funds, find foster homes and create awareness about their cause.
It’s a project called “ the Kittendales” started in 2007 by the board of directors at Hull Seaside Animal Rescue which was brainstorming about how to raise funds for the cat shelter. From the brainstorm emerged a great idea by Chris Crotty, one of the shelter co-members who decided to create a calendar featuring hunky men and cats. Continue reading
